Are all parents like that?
Quite pissed off with some of the remarks made by my parents yesterday but i managed to keep my calm and let the storm passed... the story goes like this...
My parents bought a house in Muar Malaysia just before I was born so the house is almost 30 years old already lah... now they are considering selling the house because it's quite a chore colleting rent... As u know lah, the house old liao and never renovate all these year so a bit rundown... so my mum's auntie suggest she repaint the house (and made some renovation) so that it won't look that old and rundown and easier to sell...
My "resourceful" mother then suggested we go back to muar and repaint the house ourselves... yah just me and her... so u can guess at the end of the day it will be only me that will be doing the painting... so immediately i shot back: "6 hrs (3 to go there, 3 to come back) trip just to do painting?, u must be crazy " ... I mean there must be a better way right? like hiring some workers in M'sia to paint the house, somemore painting the whole house, can't finished in 1-2 days right?...
Then my parents got angry and started making scarastic remarks...
my mum:
says that i dun wan to go back cos i wan to be wif my dd over the weekends...
my dad:
says very angry that I am "zhi li pa wai" meaning I only help others ( referring to dd) and wun help the family , unfillial blah blah blah... very nan ting (hard to swallow words) .. somemore say if next time my own hse need help he also wun help...then fine lor i seldom depend on him anyway (except for $$ hehe) Grrrh...
I was quite pissed off then ... wat I said is wrong meh? make a trip to Msia just to do painting? come on lah I am not as free as last time leh... I am already working leh like tat rush here rush there not tired meh? very stupid right to go all the way there to do painting? ...
I pei my dd got wrong meh? I only pei my dd one day a week... alot meh? I feel it's very little liao but can't help it (cos of my laziness and the rising transport cost haha)... I don't think when they are PT that time, they only meet each other once a week lor... (dunno how to say themselves)... anyway I think tat's a valid reason also wat...if got hol then mabbe still can negotiate...repainting not that important that have to be done straightaway right?
The most piss-off thing that I find abt them is that they cannot accept rejection... they never take into consideration how I tried to help them when I can... and when I reject their request they immediately shoot words back at me... Who help them do spring cleaning? who help them run errands? everything they say I must say "Yes" meh? I cannot say "No" when I got no time or really dun think it's necessary? I must do watever they wan then is fillial ah? pls lor I wun do that...
Or mabbe it's cos I am too sui pian that's why they take me for granted... almost everything gonna come to me...

Some of my present tots..
Saw my neighbour's daughter and her husband in the lift just now... he daughter is only 1 yr older than me but already happily married (i presume) and wif a 1 yr old baby already...Such bliss.... found out frm my mum tat she is staying wif her husband's family at Yishun..Hmmm so not so good after all haha cos they haben have their own hse yet... but then saw that they are holding on to a yellow booklet which I think is the sales brochure for the JE and JW walk-in selection... so they are planning to buy a hse in JW/JE also... hehe just like me and dd...haiz but no more flats for us....gotta wait for next batch
sometimes I ponder whether it's more difficult to be a man or a woman in singapore(especially)..
For women:
Cast the physiological stuffs aside, sometimes I feel tat they succumb too easily to peer pressure and temptation especially those flowery talks (too bad I haben mastered it after so many years, my talks are all thorny haha, dd must be real sad).. other stuffs leave it to women to comment themselves haha
For Man:
they have to handle their family and their wives or at least future wife... Now the society is all abt money , after graduation u gotta pay this loan, that loan.. and have to handle the tricky relationship between their family and their girlfriends... Very often it's not wat we wan to do then we can do.. they are just too many implications...take for instance, a marriage proposal.. to some it may seem to be just the affair between the bride and the groom but some "old-fashioned" n stubborn parents dun see it tat way even in this 21th century... go ROM too early, they say u are desperate or they suspect something is already wriggling inside the girl. too late, the girl (and her family) will not be happy... sometimes it's really hard to satisfy both parties.. and the matter is made worse by both sides being not understanding, and the men is sandwiched in the middle...Don't listen to parents, u are unfillial, do listen to gf, she say u dun love her... Haiz... tat's the same case wif the allowance thingy now working got added responsibility and burdens, situation now is more shaky given that the guy have just started working and a yet-to-be confirmed staff so u can say he only got 1/2 a C so how to marry?...
Right now my no1 priority is to save as much as I can... hopefully can get a house as soon as 1 become available... and to do that I will need help from dd... wif my own strength, the effect is meagre there is only so much I can do and save... if I do get a hse, i wan to make sure it doesn't stay a white elephant for a long time... I wan to stay in it asap so I will need tons of money to make my little dream happen... some of my colleagues are comtemplating buying a car... with my present salary I think I can afford a car also not a OPC but a normal car... i can't say that I m not tempted (u should see the MRT commuters in the morning rush hrs and how I sweat like hell every morning...phew) but I think I can't cos if I do tat all my planned savings would go into the "mouth" of the car, i would have nothing left for my little hse... so now must save save save then can have a chance to own my little hse... however saving itself is a hard thing.. sometimes there are something(eg..computer,etc...) tat broke down and needed replacements or u see that nice nice MP3/MP4 player tat u LOVED very much and swoosh away goes ur hard-earned money... it really breaks the momentum...
Heard alot of "horror" stories frm the seniors in my coy... how hard work it is to be a software engineer, gotta work late into the nights (but no OT pay), only the super smart survives blah blah blah... dunno whether I have made the correct choice to be a software engineer or not.. but my interest is definitely in writing codes and some electronics hardware work(so I guess this work kinda suit my interest)... dunno interest can be turned into $$?
BTW, one of my colleagues broke the bond and decides to leave the company (and join another one which he claims he have much more interest in the job) and he gotta pay $11k ... he's 21 this year an indian national.. think he too young thus still very fickle-minded... dunno how he going to find $11k to pay the coy... haiz that's the price to pay for being indecisive i think

Not-so-good saturday
Today not very good for me,... my default windowsXP theme suddenly disappear then I loaded up with the classic windows theme, the gray window2000 one... then no matter wat I do I still can't get it back ... Grrr... I think I kena some virus... wasted almost an hr restarting and starting the computer...
In the end, gotta do a system restore to get my orginal windows theme back...
but in the process I lost some of the files which I installed after the system restore... oh well at least I got my theme back...
wanted to buy another G2000 shirt, the gray one which dd said is nice... didn't buy it at Tiong Bahru cos they dun have my size at that outlet... somemore my mum made a mistake and told me that this shirt cannot be ironed straight...grr so dun really dare to invest but in the end even if I wan to they dun have my size.... but the problem is I dunno which outlet has my size... search internet also can't find all the numbers for the outlet... gotta ask one by one meh? tedious...
sighz think just give up the idea lor...

Double Whammy
Haiz hit a double whammy today, very unlucky...
1st of all, didn't get the zoo pass cos lost the ballot...
2nd, can't get tickets to "pirates of the carribean" cos the only seats available are those at the front... grr...
But then managed to get a shirt at G2000 at $19 ... hehe now I can be a potato(cos the shirt is potato color)... but both my dd n mum say nice so guess being a potato is not tat bad.. haha
My other fren went to Siemens for interview today... well he managed to clear the "test" easily cos of my help (i told him abt the qns so tat he can prepare beforehand) but dunno whether he will be accepted or not... if he's accepted means another $500 if he's confirmed haha
Did something good also yesterday.. managed to help me frens get additional convocation tickets hehe...

........ ....... .......
why everyone seems to be so rich nowadays while I am so poor...
sad... sad...
sad... sad...
Additions to the NTU family in Siemens
Heard that one of my fren will be joining Siemens in the coming weeks and another have managed to secure an interview... By right i should be happy right? cos if they are confirmed I MAY get a referral fee of $500 for each head... somemore it means that the NTU family in siemens will be growing.. but I say may cos I dunno if this scheme applies to "unconfirmed" staffs like me... haiz...
Anyway I dunno but sometimes I find it hard to work wif someone who likes to brag about his achievements... (like my elder bro...) no doubt u noe some staffs but sometimes I dun really like the way they say it across lor... sounds very arrogant to me and I dun really fancy arrogant and braggards haha... anyway I can't choose my colleagues so no choice lor...
anyway I think my attitude today when speaking to my fren was quite bad cos I was having a headache and the weather is quite warm... (it doesn't help that he's asking some stupid qns that I can't find any ans for it eg. how come u reach home so fast? why didn't meet ur gf today?) .. very sorry for tat attitude...
Also have been thinking abt dd and me also... how we can "click" together... now I got a tot, tat is our character makes us "interdependent". For me when I wan to make decisions, I would like a 2nd or 3rd opinion and then analyse them before making decisions, u can say I am indecisive but I always think it's better to get a 2nd opinion to help in making more correct (and better) decisions... For me my 2nd n 3rd opinion comes frm dd haha (she should noe I always consult her even the color and make of my shirts ) usually I always wan her to acompany me to buy such stuffs for the abovementioned reason hehe but she always very uninterested... haha She is more decisive than me lah (but doesn't mean she always make correct decision)... somemore if anything happen can push the blame to her mah haha... just joking...
And becos I am a more logical person while she is more impulsive I think I am her nemesis hehe I help keep her bad habits in check( if I can see it and she lets me) so in this sense we are mutally dependent hehe

Did I?
Heard many instances of my frens getting a better starting pay than me... Haiz.. now a bit begining to wonder whether I've made the correct choice to becoming a software engineer, or more specifically a firmware one... According to him, we can make much more by becoming a project manager.. or moving into project management cos the pay should be higher over there and u dun have to crack ur brains like mad like when u are a developer on a project... Anyway for me now, I dun think my interest is in management lor... no doubt it's a possiblity tat we may get into it..but I think for now my interest lies in development...
But in some sense he is right, now we are debt ridden by the study loan, so hack care the nature of the job, as long as it pays alot who cares... like DSTA, but according to some "deserters" , the job at DSTA sucks...
I dunno why but the more I think of it I feel that my fren's view is abit simple-minded lor... Give u more $$ of cos ask u to work harder/more lah right? which coy will be so good to pay u alot of $$ to slack around? wif more $$, means also more responsibilities. Things in life is not tat simple right? U are clever but ur employers are also not stupid...makes sense?
Who won't want to have a very high pay? at the same time I also want a job that interests me..
To tell u the truth when I heard that people got more than $3000 tarting pay, I also a bit sad/disappointed cos I would say damn why can't I get so much? I think I decided too early, forfieted my chance too soon..
Anyway I think siemens VDO is a good place for me to learn alot of things... like whether I am suitable for this line, good enough? competent enough...? Anyway I am contented wif my current life, current job... to be content is bliss right? just think that although my pay is not the highest but it's also not the lowest.. however, I think it would b better if we had some OT pay kekeke
"RnD Software Engineer" stills sounds more appealing to me haha

Survived 1 Week...
My coy: Siemens VDOSo much things happened during the last week... Last weekend super unlucky, damaged dd's sunshine while trying to squeeze through a pillar... so sad there goes one of my new year aspiration... No excuse all my fault for trying to be clever.. anyway it has "recovered" but the "hospitalisation n treatment fee" is not cheap ... anyway I bore all of it a guy gotta b responsible mah...(so now super poor haiz) buy 4D (3 numbers) also never win any money..super unlucky right?
Anyway started work at Siemens VDO on monday...went through the orientation blah blah blah where each dept head(or delegate) describes his/her dept in some details..Lectures for morning to evening (10am-530pm) this went on for 3 days...monday to wednesday..also went around meeting some of the staffs there also...mainly managers lah... haha Staff there numbered about 270
then 2 days thursday to friday attended the Compatibility Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) course (for those who dunno wat this is, this is a standard process model lah, suppose to mak industry process more standardized and achieve more efficiency )..lagi worse the course so dry, 2 whole days just study on that one... Wah!!! so sleepy...Anyway in the end still dun quite get wat the instructor is talking about haha
Anyway I am going to be an RnD Software engineer haha... I can say that this is quite close to my ideal job liao cos I like low level programming but if can gimme abit more of electronics then it would be best... haha
Found out that as RnD engineer I can't be slack already..heard that there's gg to be tight schedules for projects which means lotsa OTs... so in fact $2700 isn't alot.. And alot of frightening news from seniors like slow advancement, loads, little increment and bonus of work blah blah blah...
I believe there really is a compromise between a job u like and the benefits lor.. like if I go semicon industry I think I can get more pay but that won't be a job I like..I like RnD and RnD sector means u gonna work super hard else the "RnD" for waT? Relax aNd u Die haha...
My new boss err... not much interaction wif him yet..but my impression of him is that he is a stern and no-nonsense man... dunno whether I am gg to have a hard time under him or not...
I dunno whether I am his 1st choice candidate or not cos he only selected 2 mabbe he dun get enuff people that's why he got no choice then select me? haha dunno lah anyway get in liao then dun care lor...just do my best and see how...

Dilemma..Sighzzz
Went to visit the JW showflat at JW st 93 today ... to tell u the truth , really quite like the flat and the environment... especially where u can just look out of the window and see the lush greenry of the field at the sports complex just beside the apartment. somemore it's near to the would-be-completed pioneer MRT... meaning transport will be fairly easy. Thought that JW would be quite low in demand... cos of the "ulu-ness" of the place but I was wrong...
Called HDB today to enquire (actually planned to go down wif dd on saturday to enquire).. Oh my gosh heard from HDB that there are already 1400 applications for the 1000+ odd flats there (397 5rm + 400++ exec) drat...sure alot of applicants gonna aim for the flats near the stadium....think our chance is quite slim...
Anyway I do have mixed feelings abt this purchase... on one hand i do really like the apartments, but on the other I found that if we booked now we would get the keys in about 6 months time... not in 2008! on the other hand this is not very ideal cos what would people think? I haben start work buy hse? haben even worked a year buy hse? career still have not stablised buy hse? all these require lotsa planning...wat if I get "discontinued" or siemensVDO pulled out of Singapore the next year? how would my poor dd finance the flat alone? cos when u get the keys, u will have to start paying liao...
buy govt exec? Viable option but they are not popular... Big yes they are but do we need it? NO I think we don't cos the 5 room i think is big enough already... if there are only 2 of us in the flat..I do think that it's a little too big, cleaning would be a nightmare... govt exec? it would be even bigger...lagi worse..somemore the price....super ex...around 300K means abt $1200 a mth for 30yrs! judging by our present salary our CPF ordinary acct would have $0 in it for 30 years... Nah that's too expensive I feel...
Anyway dd and I have decided to try our luck... just go take a queue number at HDB... if can't get a unit this time, then I guess we gotta wait a while longer... anyway I think we aren't tat ready financially for a hse in the near future... At most we will just take a resale flat lor...
but prime areas, exec flats I think too extravagant for us, personally I feel....

but prime areas, exec flats I think too extravagant for us, personally I feel....

Moving On? Ready Yet?
Just learnt that HDB is having a Walk in Selection (WIS) for Jurong West (JW). dd and I are quite excited upon learning this cos we think that JW should be a nice place to live in the future. Think we most probably would "book" a flat there lor...
However thinking harder into it I can't help but feel abit anxious. I must admit that i really want to have a little cosy "nest" with my dd(future wife) . but there seeems to be a few questions unanswered and a few problems that we need to over come.
Firstly is the lifestyle changes.
1) If we marry we will be living on our own, no longer will we have our our parents washing our clothes for us, nor cook for us.
2) For the first time we will be looking after ourselves and wun have the company of our family.
Are we ready for this? To me I think I should be able to adapt fairly quickly because afterall I've been looking after myself for 5.5 days a week when I was in army(I am a stay-in personel) so looking after myself should be ok for me though I must admit that I am a bit lazy at times haha. For dd I am not sure, but I believe that she can also adapt but mabbe she needs a longer duration of time than me...
Secondly is the $$ problem
We will need to pay all the bills ourselves, Utilities bills, food, etc... Can we do it ourselves?
We won't have our dad paying the utility bills and other stuffs.
I think without dd's income , mine alone will be quite tough... Not forgetting that we still need to save up some $$ even though we are married and have a house... just for any "rainy days" I think it's even more essential to save up when u start your own family.... because u never know what will happen tomorrow...

Marriage Meaning - Sunboi's perception
Well in laymen terms the meaning of marriage is that 2 person want to be together for the rest of their life, to take care and look after one another. To me marriage should be built on mutal trust, understanding and mutual encouragement for each other. A strictly no-no is threats, threats will severly hard the marriage relationship. Saying things like "if u don't do this, then u will not get this", or "if you don't do according to my wishes, then u will get this from me" these are all examples of threats... sounds good?
In the modern society, marriage involves the 2 parties as well as their parents afterall when the 2 parties get married, their family will become related by law..(that's why called in-laws). Thus we get a lot of strange ideas from parents when their child are getting married. Go against their wishes, u will be branded "unfillial", love wife, don't love parents liao and vice-versa. The children is usually sandwiched between the wishes of their sprouse and their parents. In this case, mutual understanding of each other comes in. We must know that many a times, we do many things not in accordance with our wishes, we have to consider other people views and many other factors, somethings cannot say wan to do then can do... It requires intensive planning and commitment towards the "destination".
Just think, when a guy just started working and he tells his parents or his gf's parents that he wants to get married..what will the parents think? Putting on the shoes of the parents, will they think this way? "Wah haven't got career wan to marry, where got the $$? Desperate izzit?
or "Good marry good, faster marry not enough $$, get from us". Generally which response will the majority of parents give?
If in this situation, sprouses(future) dunno how to encourage and understand each other's predicatment then how can these 2 live together? How can they handle the future life challenges together? Before marriage is He and She but after marriage is We... They definitely need the support from each other...Only together can they advance and overcome all problems.
If no $$ to...
buy BMW then buy Kia/Perodua lah
buy big house then live in HDB and smaller house lah
go big resturant eat then eat at hawker center lah
go far and exotic places for holiday then settle for somewhere near lor
wear designer clothes then wear cheaper brands lor
open 20 tables to invite people to wedding then just order less lah those unimportant one heck care (all cos of the "face" problem)
A temporary setback is not the end of the world, as long as we are willing to work hard there will always be a way out.

Moving on to next stage...
Hurray, yesterday found out that I've passed all my modules haha, though results are not that good but I think as long as I can pass and graduate, I'm happy liao... it's been a long and hard 3 years at NTU... glad that it's all going to end soon. Anyway I think your academic results are for you to ge a job, for the manager to decide he's going to take another look at you. but since lucky me gotta job already so I guess results are not that important to me already haha...
Anyway moving into the next stage of my life - work, I am actually quite nervous and excited. There are many uncertainties ahead like...
Will I be a good software engineer?
Will I be able to complete my tasks?
Will my job be boring?
Will I get nasty colleagues?
Will I adapt to the working environment quickly?
Will my pay be enough to support myself and at the same time save for pongx4??
Whatever it is I will try my best at my new job...certainly hope that I have made the correct choice...Thinking back, I think I am a very lucky guy...A Good relationship with a good dd(though I still think she spends $$ a bit too much), found a job relatively fast and with a reasonable pay... I think I am contented already...

Finally, One Job Offer!!! Yeah!!!
Today very unexpectedly I received a call from ST Electronics (info Comm system, AMK) that they are offering me the position of a Software engineer with them... yeah at least got 1 coy that wans me so I am very happy., Though I am still considering their offer (promised to get back to them by Mon) mainly cos it's more of an IT job(I still prefer firmware cos it's software /w hardware) but if no other offers come along then I think i will have to accept this one... only thing is I am not sure whether I will be able to do the job...but nevermind... so happy, I called my dd niang zi the moment I put down the phone, haha cos I wan to discuss wif me...she is my dd niang zi mah hehe
Hmph.. my elder bro still say(to my mum) that my kou chai ( talking skills or watever u call tat) is not good tat's why the coys never call but at least I got 1 job offer yeah!!! so can sort of shut him up a little. Though I am still habouring hopes of going into siemens VDO (cos it's more firmware) but I think the chances are slim lor haiz...Look at the number of applicants then... some got master's degree somemore...
In some sense my bro is right, I dun feel at ease about "boasting" about myself which is the thing that I must do in interviews... tat I lose to him hands down... cos I really dun know how to promote myself... I only speak the truth and try to move people with my sincerity and honesty..tat's why I try to be as honest about myself to the interviewers as possible...
Oh Ya another thing my kou chai not good but at least I got a dd who have stuck with me through thick and thin (dunno true or not) for 7 long hard years already so I still win him...haha
Yeah !!! happy happy...

Some Tots
Just finished watching "惡作劇之吻 ", actually this is suppose to be a light hearted comedy but it still contains some touching scenes... The story goes like this.
This little gal "Xiang Qing (Ariel Lin)" was mermerised by a guy while she is in Pre U (JC in Singapore). This guy "Zhi Shu" is both clever and good in sports...so he's the idol of all young gals. so one day, Xiang qing plucked up her courage and handed Zhi Shu her love letter but was ridiculed by him and other students. Then by a stroke of coincidence, mild earthquake (2 on the richter scale) make her house collasped and she have to move into Zhi Shu's house, it turns out that their 2 dads are good friends.
Throughout her stay in Zhi Shu's house she began to know more about Zhi Shu and vice versa. Though Zhi Shu always make fun of her and tease her with un forgiving words but she still love him as much as before, unwavering. I guess making fun of each other and quarreling is their way of communication and it makes Zhi Shu open up. He became "more human" according to him. Little did he know that bit by bit, he is begining to love Xiang Qing.
Finally the story end with both of them happily married...so happy ...Happy ending... not like the 天外飛仙 / Tian Wai Fei Xian when the 2 of them is still seperated although the ending give a hint that they might be reunited...
So touching... the xiang qing make the ai xing bian dang for zhishu... sobsob
suddenly the xiang qing reminds me of my dd... also have puffy cheeks hehe

Exposed!
Haha after dunno how many months of "cold war" with my younger brother, my mum finally notice it ... yeah and I got scolded for it... seems to her that it's all my fault ... oh well my fault than my fault...
The one thing I hate most is smug and arrogant people who thinks they noe everything and this is why I am so pissed off wif my youngest bro. He scolds everyone and thinks that everyone is ignorant and he noes everything... all good advice fell on deaf years and u get called "names", not nice ones and sometimes vulgar ones from him. Well I am not going to admit defeat and start talking to him 1st. He's gg to talk to me 1st then I will cease war.. I dun think i am in the wrong. He must be taught a lesson for his arrogance. Speaking to him 1st will only raise his level of arrogance and makes him think he's right and the whole cycle is gg to repeat dunno how many times...
I don't need anything from him anyway, and I can't stand talking to an arrogant person...so rather than quarrel wif him and make myself cheap. I rather not tok to him, in tat way can save my saliva and time. The least I can expect from him is respect to his brother, if I can't get that kind of respect then sorry man., dun expect me to show any to u...u've been pampered long enuff

3rd Interview at HP...
Went for a interview in HP on Friday.. actually kena asked alot of very difficult questions by a indian engineer... he ask me to write codes, explain concepts and he keep rubbing in to show that he's good... Ya ya I know he's good lah but no need to show off right? I am only a fresh graduate, yeah FRESH and he's been working on tat area for dunno how many donkey years, wat he wanted to proved was tat he's better than me... Ok u (indian engineer) won... Gimme a year of on-the-job training and I bet I can answer all the questions u post to me haha
anyway i think my chances of that job is slim lah cos of the treatment I got, luckily there are 2 more engineers beside the indian who kept reminding him that I am a FRESH graduate... else sure kena bombed like hell. I dunno if that's the way to conduct interview and the 1st interview somemore... keep putting u down? keep showing that u are better? Oh well I am like "begging" for a job so no choice lor ... haha anyway I dun habour any hatred for the indian engineer lah... he gave me a good interview experience haha... so I noe wat I can expect for the next...
